I needed a break from the intubation posting. I do not have a strong position on this and have not even paid attention to the debate. However, yes you knew that was going to lead to a However, there are a couple of things that I have read in the past day that point out some problems for the advocates of the government run, but less bureaucratic system. Yes, that is likely to be an oxymoron, but that is the way it is being sold.
Over at Musings of a Dinosaur, Dr. Dino writes Just Saying "No" to Colonoscopy, which is a criticism of an insurance company that deserves a lot of criticism. At the end is the comment -
Aside from Medicare paying for kidney transplants, but discontinuing coverage for anti-rejection drugs after three years.
According to Stanford -
The averagelife expectancy of a kidney from a deceased donor is approximately 10 years. The average life expectancy of a kidney from a living donor is longer, about 18 years.
Even somebody educated according to the bureaucratic child abuse/educational vacuum that is No Child Left Behind, should be able to recognize that 10 years is longer than 3 years, and 18 years is 6 times as long.
Dr. Wes comments on the inadequacies of the government solution in Model Health Care System Drops Medicaid Patients.
Yep, the Mayo clinic is refusing Medicaid patients from two states, citing poor payment rates.
I guess, if the goal is How to get the hospital out of patient care, the non-bureaucratic system that is also known as Medicare, is claiming success. Speaking of success, I wonder how they are at intubation.
There certainly are problems with insurance companies, as Dr. Dino points out in the rest of her post. So, why does the government seem to be trying so hard to make the insurance companies look not so bad?

Good catch, but you used the word intubation in a non intubation post. I'm just sayin'.
The Happy Medic,

See! I really need a break from all of this intubation stuff. Soon I will be falling down and intubating people on the way to the ground, just like Ambulance Driver. ;-)
It's a good thing I don't remember my dreams. I'd hate to think what is going on up there when I'm not paying attention. It's scary enough when I am paying attention.
You haven't been following this debate? Really? You should, as should every taxpayer. If you think that there are problems with privately owned insurance companies, just wait until it's a government run bureaucracy that decides who gets what treatments, when, and for how long.
It makes intubation look simple in comparison.
Happy Medic, that's sort of a Monty Python reference isn't it. Ahhh, I said "intubation" again. Ahhh, there I said "intubation" again.
From the Knights that say "Airway".
TOTWTYTR,
The problem is that there is so much to shovel through to get to the truth on both sides. There is a reason I never vote for those in either of these parties.
Palin and Biden as VP candidates? It isn't The Gong Show.
The best way to deal with both sides, since they both claim the moral high ground, while they are firmly planted in sleaze, is to ridicule them. Maybe some of that ridicule will get someone to change some of their more vile plans. Yeah, I don't expect anyone to change anything because of me, either.
You're going to be very surprised when Palin resurfaces. She's one smart cookie and was a victim of poor campaign management and a smear campaign from the supposedly impartial media. The same media that treat Biden as an intellectual force or something.
The health care debate is the most important domestic issue going right now. More so even than the economy because it will impact that too. You owe it to yourself and your kids to pay attention.
